CERTIFICATE OF MERIT

Certificate of Merit Overview

Certificate of Merit is a standardized music curriculum that covers foundational skills including technique, ear training, sight reading, theory, and prepared repertoire.

Evaluations are held annually in a virtual format (check your MTAC Teacher Portal for assigned evaluation timeline in mid-February and March).  Videos may be pre-recorded anytime before the video submission deadline.

Students who successfully pass every portion of the exam will receive an official MTAC CM Certificate.  Students who meet the State Honors award requirements will receive a special seal on their certificate.  Senior medallions are awarded to eligible high school seniors.  Students demonstrating exceptional skill during their Evaluation may be invited to perform live at annual MTAC State Convention Recitals.

Guidelines are included in the CM syllabi for piano, violin, viola, cello, voice, harp, flute, oboe and most wind instruments.

The most recent Syllabi must be used:

  • 2012 — Piano and String

  • 2012 — Winds, Voice, and Harp

CM Registration: Teachers must register their students at mtac.org. The registration window is September 1-30.
