GREETINGS FROM OUR PRESIDENT

            It was great to see so many teachers at the September meeting. We had a great Certificate of Merit presentation given by Nicole Burns. If you have more CM questions please send your questions email to Karen Becker.

             I have to say our branch photograph turned out really well. It took some doing to get us all arranged around the piano, but it really turned out great. It will soon be on our branch website.  Many thanks to photographer, Les Vielbig for taking the photo, and being so patient with us. Speaking of our website, I have selected a committee to work on revising and updating our branch website. We want it to be easy to use and meet our specific needs.

          Please note a correction in our directory. On page 16, Saturday, February 15, is the correct day for Branch Studio Recitals. Cross out February 1 at the top of the same page. Make the same correction on page 30 to February 15.

          You probably noticed we have a new branch logo on the directory. This logo will be used on our newsletters, and all branch programs, as well as the Holiday Festival medals. The state gave each branch its own logo.

BRANCH STUDIO RECITALS NEWS from Nicole

             Branch Studio Recitals are set up so that PV-VC MTAC teachers may use the First United Methodist Church for personal studio recitals at a reduced rate of $40.00 per hour. 

             The branch will reserve the church.  A minimum of three teachers must participate and/or a minimum of 5 hours must be reserved on each date for the event to take place at this reduced rate.  The parlor will be available for  refreshments for 30 minutes following your reservation time.

            When times are reserved, please send a check ($40.00 per hour) payable to PV-VC MTAC immediately to   Nicole A. Burns within two days of reservation.  All reservations must be paid no later than Friday, October 18, 2013.  This is non-refundable.  You may exchange within the branch or forfeit.  A waitlist for times and dates will be accepted.

           Strict guidelines have been established for the pristine condition of the sanctuary, parlor, kitchen, narthex, and restrooms following each studio recital.  There will be penalties, both financial and denied   future privileges, if any messes are left, including pews (cards, pencils, hymnals, and registration books), restrooms, kitchen, or parlor.  The church may not be left unattended at any time.  You are responsible to remain at the church until the next teacher arrives.  Scheduling immediately before or after another teacher is highly recommended.

HOLIDAY FESTIVAL NEWS from Nicole

Each Holiday Season a theme is chosen for a festival where gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded for performances of one piece. This year's Holiday Festival will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Ventura.  The theme for this year’s festival is "Sounds of Nature".  If you are unsure or need further clarification, please contact Nicole Burns.

All compositions must be written for the   original instrument (no arrangements!); all levels are eligible. As in all our branch recitals, NO REPEATS, D.C. is okay. Due to the overwhelming number of entrants, it has been decided to limit students to one piece or movement only; a four-minute maximum time limit per piece will be strictly enforced. No duplicate pieces within a studio will be allowed. Any exceptions to these rules must be approved prior to completing your online application. If you have any questions, please phone Nicole Burns at 981-8169. To promote fairness, any irregular entries will be screened by the Board of Directors.

All entries must be submitted via email.  Please go to our website for the Excel spreadsheet under “Festivals”.

Registration Deadline: Friday,October 11, 2013.  The $20.00 fee per student is also due at this time. Please mail checks made payable to PV-VC MTAC (or bring to the meeting) to be delivered to Nicole Burns. Your registration is not complete until Nicole receives your check. It is your responsibility to make sure your students and parents have read and signed the PV-VC MTAC Branch Recital Guidelines forms. You may send these to Nicole by mail or email.

CM NEWS from Karen

Welcome to a new year of CM!!  I am excited that three people have already started the registration process.  I suggest everyone gets their students in the database and at least starts the process.  Both state and local CM fees are automatically added to your fee list so you do not have to worry about doing any math. 

Please note that Path B is no longer an option.  If you regularly used it for some of your students and you would like to know what your options are, please let me know. 

I will be sending all CM information via email.  If your email address has not been updated in the MTAC database, you will not get important information regarding CM.  You are responsible for the information that is sent out so please let me know if you haven’t received any emails from me.

BACH FESTIVAL NEWS from Kary

                As a friendly reminder, the branch Bach Festival will be Saturday, April 5, 2014.  Please submit application materials to Kary Kramer by Saturday, March 1, 2014 The regional Bach Festival will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014.

CHOIR AUDITIONS

             The Master Children's Choir is currently holding auditions.  Call now for an appointment:  805-796-1951. They are especially looking for 8-10 year-olds.  They are also accepting students for the International Children's Choir Festival in Canterbury, England, July 19-26, 2014,  up through age 18.

Saturday, October 5, 5:00 pm.  Noelle Compinsky-Tinturin along with several other members of the Sara Compinsky Master Class will perform in a concert to benefit the Master Class on at the home of Sandra Dewar, 5415 Amber Circle, Calabasas, 91382. Pianists will perform music by Chopin, Debussy, Piazzolla, Ravel, Schubert, Wagner-Liszt, and Michael Glenn Williams.  A reception will follow the concert.  Suggested donation: Single tickets $30. —Sunday, Oct. 20, 2:00pm. The Conejo Valley Branch MTAC is hosting a “Teacher Showcase Recital Fundraiser Benefit” for Conejo Branch students performing in the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic 2014 Season.  The concert will feature teachers and guests of the Conejo Branch MTAC.  Admission is a suggested donation of $20.00 adults and seniors; $10.00 for students.  A reception with light refreshments will follow the concert.  Westlake United Methodist Church, 1049 S. Westlake Blvd, Westlake Village.
