The CM Branch Honors Recital is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Ventura. 

Recital times will be 1:30pm, 2:45pm, 4:00pm, and 5:15pm. Special time requests cannot be honored! 

Performance times will be announced after the March 8th application deadline. Check your email dated February 27th for the student listing of selectees and further instructions. 


Due to the low number of teachers interested in performing, the Teachers’ Recital (which was scheduled for the evening of Saturday March 23) has been cancelled.


The PV/VC Branch Bach Festival is coming up on April 13th and will be held at FUMC.  The deadline for registration is Saturday, March 16th, please send checks to Sharon Kim, $25.00 per student, and register online at The $25 fee can be sent to Sharon.

NEW this year: 50% of students at Branch level will be chosen as winners!  Enter as many students as you can as there are many opportunities to be selected as winners by the judges.  Participating teachers are required to work at the festival.  Call or email Sharon Kim for any questions: (805) 807-4266 or 


The Ensemble Festival will held on Saturday, May 18.  Registration forms are due on Friday, April 13 and are available on the website under “Festival Enrollment”.    


The 2019 Branch Competition will be held on Saturday, April 27th  at the First United Methodist Church in Ventura.  The competition is open to all instruments and voice.  Students must qualify to enter the competition by meeting one of the following criteria:

            1) receive Branch Honors for level 3 or higher in Certificate of Merit in the competition year

            2) receive a gold medal in the Holiday Festival in the competition year

            3) be awarded Branch Winner or Alternate for the Bach Festival in the previous year.

            There are three divisions: ages 12 & under,   13 - 15, and 16-18, (depending on number of applicants, Age 15 will be in 2nd or 3rd division.) There are two judges for each division.  Winners will be announced after each division program.   Students may perform any memorized piece from the standard classical repertoire. Popular music is not allowed.

            Application deadline and fee of $25 are due on March 23rd , 2019 .

Branch Studio Recitals are set up so that PV-VC MTAC teachers may use the First United Methodist Church for personal studio recitals at a reduced rate of $40.00 per hour.

The parlor is available for refreshments during your reserved time. You must reserve enough time for set-up, refreshments, and clean-up. You must be completely finished in time for the next reservation.

Once your reservation is confirmed, send a check ($40 per hour) payable to PV-VC MTAC to Nicole A. Burns. This is non-refundable.  You may exchange within the Branch or forfeit. A wait-list for dates and times will be accepted.

Strict guidelines have been established for the pristine condition of the sanctuary, parlor, kitchen, narthex, and restrooms following each studio recital. There will be penalties, both financial and denied future privileges, if any messes are left, including pews (cards, pencils, hymnals, and registration books), restrooms, kitchen, or parlor.

The church may not be left unattended at any time. You are responsible to remain at the church until the next teacher arrivesScheduling immediately before or after another studio is highly recommended.

The Sara Compinsky Master Class meets at 10:00 am on the 2nd Wednesday of the month and features a different pianist leader each month. The next class of this season will be March 13 at Keyboard Concepts piano store in Van Nuys, and the leader will be pianist Mark Richman.  Admission to audit the class is $20.00.  Coffee and refreshments are served.

Saturday, March 2, 5:00pm.  You are warmly invited to a Pre-Lenten Evensong on Saturday, March 2 at 5 pm.  Mozart's compact and joyous Sparrow Mass in C (K. 220) will be featured along with charming short pieces by Telemann for trumpet and keyboard.  Buxtehude's exuberant setting of the chorale Du Frieden-furst, Herr Jesu Christ (You Prince of Peace, Lord Jesus Christ), BuxWV20 will round out our hour of musical meditation. Featuring Randy Jones, trumpet. Vocal soloists include Patricia Lathrop-McPherson, Karen Sonnenschein, Christian Quilici, Joseph Montanaro and Jim Ayars along with a chamber ensemble.  Conducted by Helen Farson.  Admission is always free.
