BRANCH PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I look forward to seeing many more of our branch members, coming into CM season!  We pour so much of our energy, time, and resources into our students.  It is worthwhile when we can see that fire ignite in them, awakening them to what we all know… the joy it is to bring music to life.  As Maria Callas said, “I don’t need the money, dear.  I work for art."  

CM NEWS from Karen

Hello CM Teachers, CM is less than a month away!  I hope you and your students are preparing all the final details; I am certainly working on all the final details for our branch.

The student schedule will be published on January 31st. This means that you and the parents will receive an email from MTAC telling you to check your portal for the schedule.  Once you receive this, please check with your families to ensure that they have their schedule.

Teachers will be asked to arrive at St. Pauls Episcopal Church at 7:30 a.m. for set up. Evaluators will be arriving at 8:00 and evaluations begin at 8:30 (with one room starting at 9:30)  Teacher jobs will be sent out in the next two weeks.

Students must take their theory test on CM day Saturday, February 23rd.  Please make sure they follow the rules (#5 below) about what time they must arrive by.  Panel students will also take their theory test at our branch.  Panel teachers be sure to carefully read all information from the Panel Chair, for dates, times, and locations.

SOME IMPORTANT CM DAY RULES from the State:

1. No ELECTRONIC DEVICES are allowed in the theory testing room. This includes, but is not limited to cell phones, IPods, cameras, etc.

2. Backpacks are not allowed in the theory testing room.

3.  Once students have entered the testing room, they may not leave except when escorted for other portions of the exam, for their evaluation time, or to use the restroom. If a student has to leave the theory testing room to go to their evaluation they must turn in their unfinished test to the teacher in charge of theory.  It will be given back when they return.

4. No talking in the theory testing room. Students that have questions must ask a teacher in charge.

5. Theory testing opens at 8:00am.  Students that are CM 8 or higher must begin taking their test by 2:00pm. All other levels must begin no later than 3:30pm. We begin cleaning up by 5:30pm. Teachers please help your students plan their time. This will help insure we won’t have any disappointed students or parents. 

FUNDRAISING NEWS 

Dear teachers, you should have received an email with an attachment for our upcoming Jamba Juice fundraiser; it will be held during the CM test on February 23Please email the flyer to all parents to spread the word about our upcoming fundraising event!  Print them out to hand to your students, post them on your studio bulletin boards, share it on social media, anything you can do to help get the word out will make you an important ally toward raising funds for our scholarship program that benefits all of our students! 

ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL NEWS from Caitlin

The Ensemble Festival will held on Saturday, May 18.  Registration forms are due on Friday, April 13 and are available on the http://www.pv-vcmtac.org website under “Festival Enrollment”.    

PV-VC MTAC BRANCH STUDIO RECITALS from Nicole

Branch Studio Recitals are set up so that PV-VC MTAC teachers may use the First United Methodist Church for personal studio recitals at a reduced rate of $40.00 per hour.

The parlor is available for refreshments during your reserved time. You must reserve enough time for set-up, refreshments, and clean-up. You must be completely finished in time for the next reservation.

To reserve times, email your desired date and time to Nicole Burns at BurnsPianoStudio@aol.com

Once your reservation is confirmed, send a check ($40 per hour) payable to PV-VC MTAC to Nicole A. Burns. This is non-refundable.  You may exchange within the Branch or forfeit. A wait-list for dates and times will be accepted.

Strict guidelines have been established for the pristine condition of the sanctuary, parlor, kitchen, narthex, and restrooms following each studio recital. There will be penalties, both financial and denied future privileges, if any messes are left, including pews (cards, pencils, hymnals, and registration books), restrooms, kitchen, or parlor.

The church may not be left unattended at any time. You are responsible to remain at the church until the next teacher arrivesScheduling immediately before or after another studio is highly recommended.

TEACHER PERFORMANCE NEWS from Noëlle

The annual “Teacher Performance” will be March 23, along with the CM Branch Honors Recitals. The application deadline is February. 16.  If you would like to perform, please send me the following information by the deadline: Your name and instrument; names and instruments of any other performers in your group; the title, composer, and timing of your music. But please let me know now if you want to perform.  Noëlle Tinturin noelle@tinturinmusic.com 

MASTERCLASS OPPORTUNITY

The Sara Compinsky Master Class meets at 10:00 am on the 2nd Wednesday of the month and features a different pianist leader each month.    The next class of this season will be February 13 at Keyboard Concepts piano store in Van Nuys, and the leader will be pianist Mark Richman.  Admission to audit the class is $20.00.  Coffee and refreshments are served.
