BRANCH PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It was such a treat to see the large turnout for our September meeting, thanks to all of you who joined us!  I’m pleased to know we have several new members.  If any of you would like guidance in understanding our branch activities, please reach out to Karen Becker or to me personally, and we are happy to assist.  I hope to see you again at the upcoming Intermediate Master Class on October 12th.    ~Celine 

BACH FESTIVAL NEWS from Sharon

The Complete Works Audition was held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at California State University - Long Beach. The selected performers representing our branch were David Kwon, (Sharon Kim), Michael Liu (Lily Starobinets), Terilyn Huang and Peiming Yang (Jeong-ah Ryu), and Manas Khatore (Noëlle Tinturin).

Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners will receive their medals during the Complete Works Award Program on Saturday afternoon, October 13, 2018.  The Location for the Awards Program is Covenant Presbyterian Church, 607 E. Third Street (at Atlantic Ave.,) Long Beach, 90802.

The public is welcome to attend this event at no charge.  All winning students wishing to receive their medals should be present at this program.  This is our chance to honor them for their outstanding work.

Again, thank you to everyone who participated.   

CM NEWS from Beverly

The database will open for registration on Monday, October 1, and close on Wednesday, October 31 at 11:59 pm.  No late registration will be accepted.

Pleasant Valley-Ventura Co. Branch Certificate of Merit will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 3290 Loma Vista Rd., in Ventura, on Saturday, February 23, 2019. Evaluations and theory testing for piano and cello will be done at this location.  Flute students will be evaluated at the Conejo MTAC Branch on March 23, 2019.  Flute students will do their theory exam at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church location on February 23, 2019.

The meeting on September 14 was very informative, but you may still have questions. Go to RESOURCES on the database to find all the information you will need. Basic Instructions for teachers to enroll their students. Also,  Policies and Procedures has everything you will want to know. Don’t forget your syllabus is a great resource for just about everything.

HOLIDAY FESTIVAL NEWS from Nicole

Each Holiday Season a theme is chosen for a festival where Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals are awarded for performances of one piece.

Date: Saturday, November 17, 2018

Location: First United Methodist Church in Ventura

Theme: “Invitation to the Dance” (Title must include the word DANCE or be a type of dance)

Repertoire: ONE memorized piece no longer than 4 minutes according to the theme.

All compositions written for the original instrument and all levels are eligible. As in all our branch recitals, NO REPEATS, D.C. is okay. One movement of a Sonata/Sonatina is allowed. Piano entries are limited to original works, no lesson/method books. No duplicate pieces within a studio will be permitted. Entries must be 16 measures minimum - all others are subject to variance committee approval. If you have questions about exceptions, email Nicole A. Burns.

Fees: $25.00 per student

Fees are non-refundable. All entries must be submitted via email to BurnsPianoStudio@aol.com

Please go to www.pv-vcmtac.org for the Excel spreadsheet under Festivals.  Only ONLINE applications will be accepted. Please type in information carefully as this is how it will appear on the program. Do not use all caps. Please make any necessary program requests on this form.

Your registration is not complete until I have received your check. It is your responsibility to make sure your students and parents have read and signed the PV-VC MTAC Branch Recital Guidelines forms.

To promote fairness, any irregular entries will be screened by the Board of Directors. 

PV-VC MTAC BRANCH STUDIO RECITALS from Nicole

Branch Studio Recitals are set up so that PV-VC MTAC teachers may use the First United Methodist Church for personal studio recitals at a reduced rate of $40.00 per hour.

The parlor is available for refreshments during your reserved time. You must reserve enough time for set-up, refreshments, and clean-up. You must be completely finished in time for the next reservation.

Once your reservation is confirmed, send a check ($40 per hour) payable to PV-VC MTAC to Nicole A. Burns. This is non-refundable.  You may exchange within the Branch or forfeit. A wait-list for dates and times will be accepted.

Strict guidelines have been established for the pristine condition of the sanctuary, parlor, kitchen, narthex, and restrooms following each studio recital. There will be penalties, both financial and denied future privileges, if any messes are left, including pews (cards, pencils, hymnals, and registration books), restrooms, kitchen, or parlor.

The church may not be left unattended at any time. You are responsible to remain at the church until the next teacher arrivesScheduling immediately before or after another studio is highly recommended.

MASTERCLASS OPPORTUNITY

The Sara Compinsky Master Class meets at 10:00 am on the 2nd Wednesday of the month and features a different pianist leader each month. 

The next class will be October 10 at Keyboard Concepts piano store in Van Nuys, and the leader will be pianist Steven Vanhauwaert.   Admission: $20.00.  Refreshments will be served.
