BRANCH PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As you are probably aware, several of our colleagues, families, and friends have been impacted by the Thomas Fire. Some lost homes. Some were or are still evacuated. Some have their homes standing, but with smoke and water damage. Some are housing friends who have been evacuated. Marty Mandras and her family lost their home in the Thomas Fire. Although Marty had previously moved to an assisted living center, her granddaughter was residing in the home. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have been affected by this tragedy. If you have or know of needs, please share them with us. So many of us are doing what we can, but would love to know who needs specific help!

A student of Ada Lovingfoss, Rachel Chang, wasted no time in giving back to the community by hosting a well attended Thomas Fire Fundraiser & Piano Concert on Sunday, December 17 at 5 pm at the First United Methodist Church. I was pleased to see that our Bösendorfer piano was being used to benefit the community, as it was intended to do. To quote Rachel " ...because love, community, and music conquers fire."

As we look ahead, I wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year! We have another amazing Master Class, featuring advanced students, with Dr. James Lent planned on January 12th. Please join us in welcoming the New Year with a program of hope and inspiration. Be sure to invite your students, friends, and family! I look forward to seeing you all then.

2017-18 PV-VC MTAC BRANCH STUDIO RECITALS

Branch Studio Recitals are set up so that PV-VC MTAC teachers may use the First United Methodist Church for personal studio recitals at a reduced rate of $40.00 per hour.

The branch will reserve the church. The parlor will be available for refreshments during your reserved time. Please reserve enough time for set-up, refreshments, and clean-up. You must be completely finished in time for the next reservation.

To reserve times, email your desired date and time to Nicole Burns at BurnsPianoStudio@aol.com

Once your reservation is confirmed, send a check ($40 per hour) payable to PV-VC MTAC to Nicole A. Burns. This is non-refundable.  You may exchange within the Branch or forfeit. A wait-list for dates and times will be accepted.

Strict guidelines have been established for the pristine condition of the sanctuary, parlor, kitchen, narthex, and restrooms following each studio recital. There will be penalties, both financial and denied future privileges, if any messes are left, including pews (cards, pencils, hymnals, and registration books), restrooms, kitchen, or parlor.

The church may not be left unattended at any time. You are responsible to remain at the church until the next teacher arrivesScheduling immediately before or after another studio is highly recommended.

CM NEWS from Beverly

As I said at the September meeting, Karen Becker and I are CM Co-Chairs this year. I will continue to address your issues regarding Repertoire input. Feel free to email me about any problems you are having. Deadline for Repertoire input is January 15.  Don’t wait until the last minute in case you have a problem.

Karen will be working on teacher work assignments and scheduling everything else for CM day on February 24.  She will be doing CM news from February until the end of the process.  I will still be working too, but she will be in charge.

We are both excited about our new location this year at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. It will allow us to have one CM day instead of two.  Karen and I will be visiting the church in the next week or two to look at and plan all of the rooms and pianos.

Best of Luck with your students this year.

ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL NEWS from Celine

The T-Shirt Design Contest deadline is fast approaching (Thursday, 2/1/18).  Please make sure to give all of your students a copy of the flyer.  To locate it, go to our branch website, pv-vcmtac.org, and under “Teacher Resources,” click on “Festival Enrollment.”  You will find a link to that here:  http://pv-vcmtac.org/resources/festivals.  Next, look for the link to the contest instructions under the “Ensemble Festival” heading, in the 3rd paragraph.  It says:  "To download the instructions for the T-shirt Design Contest, click here:”

Now is the time to be thinking ahead for what pieces your students will be playing!  The festival will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018.  Remember there are no repertoire restrictions (for popular, jazz, show tunes, etc., as we have with our other festivals), but there is a time limit of 8 minutes per piece.  The application deadline is April 13, 2018, which comes up very quickly after Certificate of Merit and Bach Festival.  You are encouraged to submit students in this festival.  The more variety, the better!

YOU'RE INVITED!
