DIRECTIONS TO VFUMC:  From Camarillo and Oxnard, take the 101 north.  Exit at Seaward then turn right to stay on Seaward.  Turn Left onto Main Street.  Just after you pass Chrisman Avenue on the left, veer left at the signal light on onto Santa Clara Street.  The FUMC will be on the first block on the left side.  For further directions, phone Ellen Pearson at the church office at 805-643-8621.

I hope your summer was relaxing and you are ready for a new year of teaching with many student opportunities and festivals along with many inspiring teachers’ meetings and programs.

September is our month of new beginnings. Plan to come to the September 15th Information Meeting for an overview of all programs for the year. This will be followed by a mandatory CM Teacher Training Session given by CM Council Member Ryan Huo. Be sure to stay for refreshments afterwards! Feel free to bring a snack to share, if you’d like.

You will receive a mini directory at our September meeting. This year it will contain the calendar for the year as well as teachers’ contact information. Thank you, Judy, for all your hard work in putting together the directory.

The calendar is also available on our website:, thanks to Niccole Modell. Niccole Modell has been serving us well in keeping our website up to date. Be sure to cruise through it and see what it is all about.

Our first festival is the Holiday Festival with the theme “Woman Composers”.  This is a fantastic festival and theme for even our beginning level students. I hope you will enter some students—it’s a very rewarding event.

This year we will be doing “Restaurant Sponsorship Days” to help raise money for our Branch Scholarship Fund.  This fund provides endowments and trophies for our Branch Competition winners.  Local restaurants will give us a small percentage of their profits when our students patronize them on a given day.  You will be receiving an email to notify you of the day and restaurant location.  Please email your students to spread the word; the more people dining from our organization, the more profits we will receive!  Your participation is vital to the success of this fundraiser and the future of the Branch Scholarship fund, and all you have to do is send an email to notify your students.  You can even enjoy some restaurant food yourself!  We look forward to making this new fundraising opportunity a success.

The Bach Festival is held annually to celebrate the music of J. S. Bach in which participants must play an original work by memory. It is open to keyboard, instrumental, and vocal students. There are three rounds of adjudications. May 13st was the Regional Festival and the students showcased their talent at a brilliant level. Please join in congratulating the selected winners and their teachers of our PV-VC branch. The winners will be competing once more in the Complete Works Audition.

CM NEWS from Beverly

Hope you all have had a great summer and now that it is soon to come to a close, I need to update you on CM News.  We will be holding our mandatory meeting on Friday, September 15 at the Ventura First United Methodist Church. We will have a 9:00 am Board Meeting and a 10:00 am General meeting. At the 10:00 am meeting we will have a CM presentation from a Council member.

As some of you may know, we have a new location for CM this year. We will hold CM on Saturday, February 24, 2018, (one day only) at St Paul’s Episcopal Church, 3290 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.  Be sure your students are aware that there will be one day only so they are sure to save the date.  We will have piano, strings, woodwinds, and theory on this date.  Teachers, it is important that you mark the date too. All of you will need to work on Saturday, February 24. It will be a busy day with all students there.

I will keep you updated on all CM information as it comes to me from council.  Hopefully this year will be easier than last on the Database.  Go on the database and go to Resources. There is so much information there.  Registration will begin on October 1, and end on October 31. No late registration will be allowed.

Please read every newsletter and email I will be sending you.  Also, read the state CM Newsletter, which has everything you need to know in it. If you have questions send me an email and if I don’t know the answer, I will know how to get it.  Best of Luck this year!
