What a great turnout we had at the October CM Teacher Training Meeting. Beverly did an amazing job getting us geared up and well equipped to tackle the adventures of the new CM database. We are very grateful to have her as our fearless CM Chair!!

Our November Meeting is a Board Meeting only but all Branch Members are welcome and encouraged to attend. We are always looking for committee chairs and/or help with our Branch Programs. If you are interested in becoming more involved we encourage you to attend our Board Meetings.

Our Branch has been graciously gifted with boxes upon boxes of music books (repertoire, lesson, classical, pedagogy, and reference books). Dr. Marion Weide (Santa Barbara Branch Member) recently retired from teaching in Ventura County and has donated these items to our Branch. They are sitting in my garage waiting for a new home, so please call me and make arrangements to come by and go through them. You are free to take as much as you want. 

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Holiday Festival this month.



The Holiday Festival is quickly approaching. Student schedules have been emailed to participating teachers. If you did not receive an email please let me know right away. Job assignments and a program draft will be emailed shortly. 

The updated Recital Rules and Guidelines are now available for the 2016-2017 term. Please make sure your parents and students sign these before the Holiday Festival. You do not need to turn these in but you do need to keep a copy on file. Make sure your student's parents also have a copy to refer to. Remind them of these guidelines before each Branch event!

We have 8 full programs scheduled this year, comprised of 181 students and 22 teachers. The program times are: 8:30am, 9:45am, 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:15pm, 3:30pm, 4:45pm, and 6:00pm. It will be a long day and I will need every one to do their part to make sure this is successful. Our esteemed judges are Jessica Mireles and Sharlae Jenkins from the Santa Barbara MTAC Branch.

The Complete Works Audition was recently completed on October 2nd. Held at Cal State Long Beach, David Kwon (student of Sharon Kim) from our branch won 3rd place for his performance in the Italian Concerto category. Many congratulations to our winning branch student and his teacher!

CM NEWS from Beverly

We all have our students registered for CM. It hasn’t been easy to learn the new Database, but were getting there. As you know the Database closed on October 31, and nothing can be added or changed after that date.  The exception is entering repertoire, which needs to be completed by January 15.

I believe that the state office and I have sent you all the information you need at this time. Be sure to continue to read all information that comes to you.

CM dates are Saturday, February 25, and Saturday, March 4.  Teachers, save those work days: we will need everyone to work.  I am sure we will have another great CM year at our branch.


Branch Studio Recitals are set up so that PV-VC MTAC teachers may use the First United Methodist Church for personal studio recitals at a reduced rate of $40.00 per hour.

The branch will reserve the church. The parlor will be available for refreshments during your reserved time. Please reserve enough time for set-up, refreshments, and clean-up. You must be completely finished in time for the next reservation. To reserve times, email your desired date and time to Nicole Burns at

Once your reservation is confirmed, send a check ($40 per hour) payable to PV-VC MTAC to Nicole A. Burns. This is non-refundable!  You may exchange within the Branch or forfeit. A wait-list for dates and times will be accepted.

Strict guidelines have been established for the pristine condition of the sanctuary, parlor, kitchen, narthex, and restrooms following each studio recital. There will be penalties, both financial and denied future privileges, if any messes are left, including pews (cards, pencils, hymnals, and registration books), restrooms, kitchen, or parlor.

The church may not be left unattended at any time. You are responsible to remain at the church until the next teacher arrivesScheduling immediately before or after another studio is highly recommended.

Please distribute the T-Shirt Design Contest flyer to your students.  They are encouraged to create a design for the 2017 Ensemble Festival T-Shirts, for a prize of $50.  Go to our website: and you will find the flyer under the Ensemble Festival heading.  Designs are due February 1, 2017.


The board decided at the last meeting that it is important for every student in the branch to be made aware of our Practice-a-Thon for it to be successful. To facilitate this, Celine will distribute forms to the teachers.  We ask that you simply give one to each of your students.  Some students will choose to participate and others won’t.  You do not need to do anything else except hand out the forms.  This simple step will ensure that our Branch Competition can continue in future years.  Thank you for your support!


Saturday, November 12, 5:00pm Westmont College Faculty Concert, featuring our own member Dr. Jeong-ah Ryu.  The concert will be held at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Scherr Forum.  Tickets are $25.00.
