It is good to see 2nd VP Karen Becker back in town (by way of Brussels & other exotic places).  She is our program chair and coordinated the master class with Mark Richman.  He was excellent and informative; the 3 students performed well, responding readily to his critiques.  It was a special experience to hear them on our Bösendorfer.

We will be electing  a  new board for 2016-2017 very soon.  If anyone is wanting to serve on the board or maybe assist a program chair, please let me know.

Certificate of Merit is just a few weeks away—Beverly, our CM chair, has her hands full, but will bring it all together with her usual dexterity and efficiency.

News from Celine & new baby Eddie:  Eddie is home from the hospital and is settling into life at home.  He has almost outgrown his newborn-sized clothes already.  Celine thanks everyone in the branch for all their support through these difficult times.

On a sadder note:  Helen Batteiger, a charter member of Pleasant Valley Branch, is seriously ill.  Many of you know her and might want to send a note, or call her.  Her address is 292 N. Loop Dr., Camarillo, CA 93010.  Her phone number a few years ago was 481-7770.  She is a gifted teacher, mentor, and also was a close friend of Peter Yazbeck.

It's not too late!  Print out the Practice-a-Thon packet for your students and have them fill out the February practice chart.  They can continue to get sponsors in February, even though it has already started. We rely on your support to keep our Branch Competition going! 

CM NEWS from Beverly

By now you have put your student’s repertoire online, and made any special requests for your students. Please do not ask for any further changes to the student schedule or the teacher work schedule.  Your student’s schedule will come to you by mail, and your teacher work schedule will come to you by email.  Panel teachers and flute teachers will receive evaluation information from the Panel and Flute Chairs.

Panel students and flute students will take their theory test at our branch on either Saturday, February 27, or Saturday, March 5.  Panel teachers be sure to carefully read all information from the Panel Chair, for dates, times, and locations.

March 10 – Deadline for Panel Final Application. No late applications.

April 1, 2, 3  - Panel Final Auditions at Cal Poly Pomona, unless the Panel Chair tells you otherwise.


1. No ELECTRONIC DEVICES are allowed in the theory testing room. This includes, but is not limited to MP3 players, I Pods, etc.

2. No cameras or cell phones.

3. Backpacks are not allowed in the theory testing room.

4.  Once students have entered the testing room, they may not leave except when escorted for other portions of the exam, or for their evaluation time, or to use the restroom. If a student has to leave the theory testing room to go to their evaluation they must turn in their unfinished test to the teacher in charge of theory.  It will be given back when they return.

5. No talking in the theory testing room. Students that have questions ask a teacher in charge.

Theory testing opens at 9:00am.  Students that are CM 7 or higher must begin taking their test by 2:00pm. All other levels must begin no later than 3:00pm. We begin cleaning up by 5:00pm. Teachers please help your students plan their time. This will help insure we won’t have any disappointed students or parents.

1. Branch Festival date is Saturday, April 16th at FUMC Ventura
2. Submit applications (accessible online) and fees $20 to Sharon Kim by March 19th.
3. The website registration is open now.
4. Students who plan to participate Complete Works need to choose music from the requirement pieces.  
            A list of the requirement pieces are listed in the above website. 
   * Branch & Regional Bach Festival need only one piece out of complete works but final    Complete Works Audition require a whole piece. 

5. Other Baroque pieces are allowed for only beginners and will qualify for the Branch Competition; however, these students can't advance to the Bach Regional.

BRANCH STUDIO RECITAL NEWS from Nicole                  

Branch Studio Recitals are set up so that PV-VC MTAC teachers may use the First United Methodist Church for personal studio recitals at a reduced rate of $40.00 per hour.

The branch will reserve the church. The parlor will be available for refreshments during your reserved time. Please reserve enough time for set-up, refreshments, and clean-up. You must be completely finished in time for the next reservation.

To reserve times, email your desired date and time to Nicole Burns. Once your reservation is confirmed, send a check ($40 per hour) payable to PV-VC MTAC to Nicole A. Burns within two days of reservation. This is non-refundable.  You may exchange within the branch or forfeit. A wait-list for dates and times will be accepted.

Strict guidelines have been established for the pristine condition of the sanctuary, parlor, kitchen, narthex, and restrooms following each studio recital. There will be penalties, both financial and denied future privileges, if any      messes are left, including pews (cards, pencils, hymnals, and registration books), restrooms, kitchen, or parlor.

The church may not be left unattended at any time. You are responsible to remain at the church until the next teacher arrivesScheduling immediately before or after another studio is highly recommended.
