NOVEMBER MEETING

PLACE:           Home of Celine Gietzen.

GREETINGS FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Jeong-ah Ryu presented a fabulous program for our October meeting.  We learned about schemata used in music of the galant style (circa 1720’s to 1770’s), and especially in relation to Baldassare Galuppi.  Jeong-ah  made the subject interesting, informative and understandable.  Her piano performance was a delight!  Refreshments followed the meeting, so everyone had a chance to socialize and get to know our new members better.

Holiday Festival is fast approaching.  It is great to have a program to motivate our students after a long, hot summer.   It will be a nice change to hear music from the composers of our country.   Many thanks to Nicole Burns, for the many hours she puts into this event.

Then we’re off and running with Certificate of Merit.  We’re grateful to have our fine CM chair, Beverly Schmidt, to keep us in line.

Saturday, November 7, 5:00pmAll Saints Evensong - Cherubini Requiem Mass in C minor.  In 1816, Luigi Cherubini (1760-1842) wrote a Requiem Mass that was so greatly admired by Beethoven, accounts indicate that Beethoven may have prized it above Mozart's Requiem. Although it was originally performed in the intimacy of a crypt in the St. Denis Abbey in France (to honor the anniversary of the death of Louis XVI and other victims of the French Revolution), Cherubini's first requiem became one of the most popular of its time.  We are pleased to present Cherubini's Requiem Mass in C minor in honor of All Saints Day, a fitting eulogy to those who have passed on to their rest and to the dignity of great music in honoring them.
