Our hearts go out to Sharon Kim whose daughter is seriously ill.  She organized the Bach Festival extremely well, but needed help with the actual day.  Nicole Burns & Kary Kramer stepped in to take charge of the last preparations and the festival day itself.  Thanks to all three for a great Bach Festival!

Branch Competition went smoothly, also—Lily Starobinets handled it with her usual aplomb.  Thank you, Lily.

Coming up in May is our planning meeting for the year 2015–2016.  It will be held at the 1st United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM, May 8.  All members are invited to come & give suggestions for the new year.

Then on May 9 is our Ensemble Festival & Teachers Performance—a day not to miss!

This year 3 teachers participated in the Practice-a-Thon, and their students raised a total of $1,650.00 for our scholarship fund.  This money is used to provide monetary awards and trophies for winners in our annual Branch Competition.  A big thanks goes to Goretti Fong who accumulated all of the prizes for the event and made it all possible!  The top 10 winners received prizes for bowling, trampoline jumping, skating, a candy gift basket, and free chicken sandwiches.  The top winner was Devin Romines (student of Noëlle Compinsky Tinturin), who brought in $776 in donations.  Our Branch Competition would not exist without teacher support for this program, and we owe our gratitude to Noëlle Compinsky Tinturin, Niccole Modell, and Celine Gietzen for enabling our Competition to continue.  We hope for greater teacher participation in the future, so that we are able to continue our Branch Competition.

Our annual Teacher Matinee performance will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 11:00am.  Please encourage your students to attend, and print out the attached flier for distribution.  We would love to have a full house!

May 2 and May 3.  Fern Fay cordially invites you to the  Channel Islands Chamber Orchestra - Choral Orchestral Spectacular: “The Creation” by Joseph Haydn. ‘“The Creation” is considered Joseph Haydn’s masterpiece.  The topic is the creation of the world and is based on the Old Testament books of Genesis and Psalms and John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost.  So, with that, we already are expecting something monumental.  Now look at the bringing together of a full orchestra, a sixty-voice chorus, and four soloists and all the associated logistics to present to our audiences a remarkable and profound experience!  As I said, it amazes me and, I expect, you will be amazed also.  Please note our venue change for the Camarillo concert:  In Camarillo:  Camarillo United Methodist Church, 291 Anacapa Drive, Camarillo:  Saturday, May 2nd at 4:00 p.m.  In Ventura:  First United Methodist Church, 1338 East Santa Clara Street, Ventura:  Sunday, May 3rd at 4:00 p.m.’’

Wednesday, May 13, 10:00am. You are invited to attend the Sara Compinsky Master Class with guest leader Charles Fierro. The class will take place at the Keyboard Concepts Piano Store, 5539 Van Nuys Boulevard, Sherman Oaks.  Performers and repertoire will include:
