MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

The master class with Craig Richey was certainly a treat.  One of the things he dealt with was the many ways to encourage & facilitate the student in voicing the melody—an issue we can find challenging.

It was great to see Karen Becker, on her short visit to this country from Belgium.  She was in charge of the master class, as 2nd vice-president, and as usual handled the job with aplomb.

It is gratifying to see some of our newer members entering students in Certificate of Merit this year.  CM is a rewarding program and really helps keep the students, and their teachers, motivated.

“Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy.” --Ludwig van Beethoven

PRACTICE-A-THON NEWS from Celine

Please participate in the Practice-a-Thon by having your students fill out the February practice chart.  It isn’t too late for them to get a few sponsors and join the Practice-a-Thon.  We need your support to make this a successful fundraiser, every little bit helps!

CM NEWS from Beverly

CM evaluations are coming up in a few short weeks.  We will have two CM days. Saturday, February 28, and Saturday, March 7. Strings will be evaluated on February 28, and flute students will be evaluated at a neighboring branch.

The location for both days is the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ventura, 5654 Ralston St., in Ventura.

Piano students may be scheduled for either day. Teacher work schedules are already out. All efforts to honor requests have been made, however they are not guaranteed.  Scheduling for students is being done at this time. Please do not ask for any additional requests. If you have a DROP, please give it to Judy Johnson.

Please read the following very carefully:

NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES are allowed in the theory testing room. This includes, but is not limited to MP3 players, I Pods, etc.

No cameras or cell phones.

Backpacks are not allowed in the theory testing room.

Once students have entered the testing room, they may not leave except when escorted for other portions of the exam, or for their evaluation time.  If a student has to leave the theory testing room to go to their evaluation they must turn in their unfinished test to the theory check in teacher in charge.  It will then be given back to them when they return.

Theory testing opens at 9:00 a.m.  Students that are CM 7 and above be advised to get an early start.  These students must begin their test by 2:00 p.m.  All other levels must begin no later than 3:00pm.  We need to be cleaning up the church by 5:00 p.m. and out by 5:30 p.m. Teachers look at your student’s schedule and help them to plan their time. We don’t want any disappointed teachers or students if they are unable to finish their test.

I look forward to a successful year with our CM students.  Thanks to every teacher for your work. We make it happen every year.
