Our website is nearly completed at this time. Niccole Modell, our wonderful Newsletter and Website go-to person, as well as our First Vice President, has offered to enter the teacher’s names on the new website. If you want any information updated or want to add bios, pictures, etc., you need to contact Niccole by email.

Please note that we have changed our “Teacher Matinee” to Saturday, May 17, the day of our Ensemble Festival. We will announce the time when it is set. It is our hope that this will enable more teachers and families to attend. Our teachers put on an amazing program every year.

Our meetings will be changing next year. Meetings will be held on the Second Friday of the month. Hope this works out well for everyone.

Hope to see many of you at the Bach Festival on April 5.

I am interested in more program ideas for next year.  Send me an email at: ~Beverly

The PV/VC Branch Bach Festival will be held on Saturday April 5th.  Winners of the Branch will be featured at the Regional Bach Festival on Saturday May 10th.  Both events are held at the First United Methodist Church in Ventura.

The Teacher Matinee (our May meeting) has been changed to Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11:00am, the same day as the Ensemble Festival.  We will have an Ensemble Festival student string program at 9:30am, and then the Teacher Matinee at 11:00am, followed by three more student Ensemble Festival recitals at 12:30, 2:00, and 3:30.  The board decided to make this change, hoping that students from the adjacent programs will attend the Teacher Matinee.  We also encourage students in the later afternoon programs to attend the Teacher Matinee, go out to lunch, and then return for their Ensemble Festival program.  Please take note that May 17th is also the day of the Oxnard Strawberry Festival which leads to additional traffic; drive times may need to be adjusted to compensate for this. Ensemble Festival applications are due on April 11th.  E-mail the application and mail the check made out to "PV-VC MTAC" to Celine.  The application is available on our website,, under the Festivals tab.

We had a very successful CM on both days this year. All went smoothly and both teachers and students seem very comfortable at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ventura. Our CM days would not run smoothly without each and every one of you teacher volunteers. Thank you for making this a successful experience for our students.

  • I want to thank Judy Johnson who did the student schedules so efficiently.
  • I also want to thank Beverly Schmidt for taking responsibility for the theory testing and ear training room.
  • Thanks to all the teachers who graded all of our theory tests on both days.
  • Thank you to our efficient monitors for the judges. You are so important to the judge.
  • A big special thank you to all of the early birds who came to set everything up at 7 a.m.
  • I don’t know what I would do without all of you who stayed late to clean up –thank you.
  • Please send my thanks to your wonderful high school volunteers who came to help us out. I don’t know what we would do without each and every one of you.

It takes all of us to make CM successful. Many thanks.

April 15– Tuesday,  Deadline to apply for all recitals for convention.

Our new and improved website will be officially launching in the near future.  We will no longer be showing an “X Chart” on our website; instead, there will be a “Find A Teacher”  page listing of all our teachers.  Your teaching preferences and phone numbers from our previous X-chart will automatically be included on the new site; however, we now have the additional options of including your email, websites, teacher photos, and teacher bios!  If you would like this additional information to be included on the new website, please email Niccole Modell by April 20.  Send all items to Niccole at:

Our Teachers' Matinee recital has been changed from Friday to Saturday, May 17th at 11:00 am so more students could attend on the same day as our wonderful Ensemble Festival for students.  This will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 1338 E. Santa Clara St. in Ventura.

The piano, of course, will be our own Bosendorfer in the sanctuary AND the church's grand piano. Either or both pianos are available for solo, duo or concerto repertoire.

Please contact program coordinators Karen Becker and Fern Fay no later than Friday, April 11th if you wish to play.  Include your titles, composers, and bio.

Friday, April 4 & Sunday, April 6The nonprofit Thousand Oaks Philharmonic will showcase eight young Ventura County musicians in its upcoming Opus 39 concert.  Conducted by Dr. John Roscigno, the program will include violin and piano concertos by Bach, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Saint-Saens, Schumann, and Tchaikovsky. Sunday, May 4, 4pmThe Master Children’s Choir will present their annual Spring Concert on Sunday afternoon May 4th at 4pm at the Community Presbyterian Church, 1550 Poli Street in Ventura. This year’s concert features music representative of cultures around the world. Pieces from Israel, Samalia, and Cuba are exciting to children and adults, and are engaging as they speak to the folk music traditions of those lands. Pieces reminiscent of Japan, Hawaii, and the americana tune about crazy geography take the listener to other places stirring the imagination, and invoking laughter. Come and enjoy the pristine voices of the well trained Master Children’s Choir, and enjoy a Sunday afternoon of loveliness. We appreciate your support. Ticket sales go to support our scholarship fund for talented children in need and may be obtained on line at our web site.
