GREETINGS FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Hope all of you are having wonderful holiday time with your families this year. It’s a busy time, but a time to enjoy family and friends. As for myself, if I don’t stop eating the holiday sweets, I will need to go on a diet.

We will soon have a completely new, well planned, branch website. I am really excited about it. You will receive more information soon. Celine Gietzen has headed up our committee to get the new website completed, and she is doing a great job keeping us informed every step of the way. The other committee members are Fern Fay, Niccole Modell, and Nicole Burns.

Our January meeting will be held at the Ventura First United Methodist Church. I wish everyone a great New Year ahead in 2014, and hope to see many of you at the January meeting. ~Beverly

UPRIGHT PIANO NEEDED FOR CM DAY

Dear Teachers – we are in desperate need for an upright piano for one of our evaluation rooms.  Beverly Schmidt has graciously offered us her upright during CM; unfortunately, the second piano we had lined up is no longer available.

We are trying to move away from renting a piano as the quality has not been up to the standards that we would like for our students’ evaluations.

If you can loan us a good quality instrument from Friday February 21 to Monday March 3, please email me right away.  Your piano will be tuned when it is returned to you on the 3rd.

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks,  Karen S. Becker

CM NEWS from Karen

BIG CHANGE FOR MAKING REQUESTS THIS YEAR – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

After careful consideration, Judy and I have decided to activate the request button for our branch this year.  Please remember that this is for important reasons only and not to be used unless necessary. The deadline to make requests has been extended to January 17th.

Here are the guidelines for making requests:

Day 1 – Feb. 22

Day 2 – March 1

Only select one of these days if you know of a conflict with one of your students.   Select AM or PM only if you know students have a need for morning or afternoon.  Please note that all strings are day one, so there is no need to make a day request.  It is an optional button, so don’t use it if you don’t have any requests.

Important Dates:

JANUARY 2 - The Database will open for entering evaluation information and Repertoire online.

JANUARY 15 - DEADLINE for Panel students information to be entered online.

Also the last day for Panel students to revert to Non-Panel status.

JANUARY 17 – deadline to make requests for students.

JANUARY 27 - DEADLINE for all other students information to be entered online.

FEBRUARY 22 – Evaluations for Piano, Flute and Strings; Theory Testing Available

MARCH 1 – Evaluations for Piano & Flute; Theory Testing Available

EVALUATION SCHEDULE:

Deadline to make a request using the database January 17 (note: extended from January 2nd). Please do not request unless absolutely necessary. We will need to schedule the students evenly between the two days because of the judging schedule.

TEACHER WORK SCHEDULE:

I will be assigning teachers their work schedule early in February. Teachers with 1-9 students will be required to work one full day. Teachers with 10 and above will be required to work two full days.

TO ENTER EVALUATION INFORMATION ONLINE:

Go to mtac.org, click on login and enter your username and password.

On the left hand side of the screen click on CM Resources, and then click on documents. When the next screen comes up, scroll to the second link: 2013-2014 Instructions for Entering Information and Evaluation Repertoire online. You can down load this so that you can read and follow the directions.

Remember to put Siblings together by using the carpool function.

All requests for February 22 or March 1 must be made no later than Friday, January 17.

REMAIN AT LEVEL:

Students who receive a Remain at Level or fail the written theory test will not be allowed to proceed to the next level until they pass the failed level. Once a student has passed both parts of the evaluation the student may skip to any level for which he or she is prepared.

Email me if you have any questions. Take care .  ~Karen
